Another way of training: Plyometrics

A plyometric workout routine consists of explosive, speed exercise that incorporates a wide variety exercises ranging from jumping to sprinting.  Unlike many exercise routines, plyometrics can engage a wide variety of muscles with the ability to elevate the heart rate- incorporating cardio with muscular strength and endurance.
A plyometric exercise regimen increases the body’s ability to burn calories, reduces the ‘down’ time during a workout, can be performed by a wide variety of people in different locations, and targets all of the major aspects of physical fitness.
The key to plyometrics is keeping the body moving constantly while alternating different exercises.  Put forth as close to maximal effort as possible without resting in-between sets/repetitions.  Listed below are just a few examples of what a plyometric routine can consist of.  Interchange these exercises and incorporate some more of your own for a great workout!
  • Squat Jumps
  • 20 Meter Sprint
  • Box Jumps
  • Flutter Kick
  • Jump or Clap Push-Ups
  • Speed Bounds
